KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a pulsating finish, Danos La Paz ridden by apprentice Tevin Foster came from well off the pace and was just able to nick Mirabilis (Christopher Mamdeen) in the glass to get proceedings started on the 10-race Easter Monday program at Caymanas Park, just moments ago.
Danos La Paz trained and owned by Dennis Thwaites got home by a nose with Willodeen (Linton Steadman) another length behind the second placed horse. The event was a $550,000 - $500,000 Optional Claimer for four-year-olds and upwards over 6 ½ furlongs.
Not surprisingly both Danos La Paz and Mirabilis were claimed from the race. Danos La Paz was claimed by trainer Ryan Darby for owner Kevin Whitter ($550,000) and Mirabilis by trainer Fitznahum Williams for owner Colchar also for $550,000.
The winning time was 1:22.2 and Danos La Paz won at odds of 7-2.
