Ian “Dolly Baby” Spence in dream chance ride victory as Further and Beyond wins Jamaica Two-Year-Stakes

KINGSTON, Jamaica – While Further and Beyond ran his heart out to win the major race for juveniles – the one mile Supreme Ventures Two-Year-Old Stakes in convincing fashion – it was long time jockey Ian “Dolly Baby” Spence who gathered all the adoration.

“Dolly Baby” was a late choice to replace Dane Nelson and the 55-year-old rode a superb tactical race to win what was the 10th of 11 races on the Caymanas Sunday card.

Hoist The Mast, a stablemate of Further and Beyond set blazing splits of 23.2 x 45.3 x 1:10.4 followed closely by She’s A Wonder (Reyan Lewis) with Spence settling Further and Beyond in the third slot.

The three Hoist The Mast, She’s A Wonder and Further and Beyond entered the last two furlongs for the stretch drive in that order.

Then Spence prodded Further and Beyond who responded in the way champions do by flashing by Hoist The Mast and She’s A Wonder to give champion trainer Anthony Nunes another victory in this race.

Further and Beyond (Blue Pepsi Lodge – Rumble) was three lengths ahead of filly She’s A Wonder who ran a game race for her final placing. Den Street (Philip Parchment) was third.

The winning time was a noticeable 1:39.3.

With this win Further and Beyond is sure to be crowned as the champion two-year-old of 2020.
