KINGSTON, Jamaica – After three of 16 horses were declared late non-starters, even money favourite Sure Step gave punters a winning start in the first of 11 races on the Saturday card at Caymanas Park a short while ago.

Lining up in a $180,000 claiming race for five-year-olds and upwards going three furlongs straight, Sure Step ridden by apprentice Reyan Lewis and trained by David Powell went to the front after which it was a procession.

Second was Freedom For Eds (Dane Nelson – 3/2) with third the spot occupied by Laws of the Code (Odeen Edwards – 7/2).

This was Lewis’ first winner since the resumption of racing on June 20 and the first for Powell in many moons.
