4-5 on Battle Dancer starts Derby Day (Oct 31) race card at the Park – Shepanza a Derby late-non-starter

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Punters got especially their exotic wagers off to a flying start when 4-5 on in the final betting Battle Dancer won the first of the 10 Derby Day races at Caymanas Park a short while ago.

Battle Dancer after finishing 13th and 11th in his first two starts returned under the guidance of experienced jockey Ian Spence to win a maiden special weight for three-year-olds only travelling 6 ½ furlongs.

Trained by Philip Feanny, Battle Dancer was on the lead from the off and was able to confidently hold the challenge of Colour Me Tan (Dick Cardenas) who finished second in the stretch drive and third by the post Zabratone (Nicholas Hibbert).

An update on the Derby itself, the ninth race today, sees one of the two fillies entered Shepanza being declared a late non-starter.
